Karma Essay Example

According to Kurt Cobain, “If you’re a really mean person you’re going to come back as a fly and eat poop” (Cobain). I believe in the infinite, omnipotent power of karma. Karma takes its toll on everyone, and the most surprising thing is that it goes both ways. The devils are penalized, and the angels are extolled. When I was younger, I would constantly torment my sisters. I would steal their favorite Barbie toys and draw on the faces with a black marker, blotting them completely out. Pulling pranks were also never out of the question. Whether it was dumping a glass of ice over the curtain wall when one of my sisters was showering or scaring them when they rounded a corner, it would typically end in me with a few bruises. During these years, not once have I thought about the consequences that came with my crazy antics. In elementary school, my fifth-grade teacher would remind us of the Golden Rule, “Treat others the way you wanted to be treated.”This never really changed my perspective on treating my sisters worse than I actually should, but it planted a seed of curiosity inside me. I had to test this theory. So, after school, I went home and found my sister sitting at her desk, watching her makeup videos. Stealthily, I slowly crept up to her, gave her a noogie, and made a break for it running the other way. Clumsily, I tripped over her backpack landing face-first. Well, my sister got a good laugh, and I got a Band-aid, and ice pack, and a determination to do it again tomorrow (but without the falling). The next day, I was confident. There was nothing that could stop me. This time, I ran up to my sister, gave her a noogie, and made a beeline for my room, dodging her strategically placed backpack. Unfortunately, I missed a step while scurrying up the stairs and fell on my stomach plummeting down, earning two more ice packs. These past experiments hooked me into diving deeper into the world of karma, which basically consisted of me looking it up on Google. There was no coincidence of getting hurt twice after noogying my sister because karma was involved. Then, my dimwitted 10-year-old mind had an epiphany, a punishment for a crime, a reward for a benevolence. From that point on, I lessened the pranking (mostly because my sisters lock the bathroom door now) and tried to stress the concept of helping others more and being fair-minded. However, this doesn’t mean I don’t try to sneak in a glass of ice into the bathroom now and then when my sisters forget to lock the bathroom door. I believe and blame all of my mistakes on, the concept of karma.
