Childhood vs Adulthood Compare and Contrast Essay Example
Throughout my life, I have dealt with many challenges, but I manage to push through and avoid negativity so it will not bring me down. As a child my life was enjoyable because you did not have as many responsibilities as you do now. Now I am almost in my next stage of life, and I have to start taking on more responsibilities and make smarter decisions. During my elementary school years I did not really care too much about school. At the time, I did not care what my grades were because it wasn't that big of a deal. However, one day in 6th grade, my math teacher told me to stay a few minutes longer because she wanted to talk about my grade. She told me that I should pay more attention in class because in 7th grade it will be completely different than what I am experiencing now. All I told her was "Ok I'm sorry," but in my mind, I just shrugged it off and forgot about it the next day. Toward the end of 6th grade, students began to get their report cards. I honestly did not want to know my final grade was because I knew that it was going to be terrible. First, I checked my English grade because I felt more confident in my English skills than my math skills. To my surprise, I got a decent score in English, but I got a horrible score in math. My parents told me I have to try harder in middle school, but then again I did not see it as a big deal at the time.
My experience with 7th grade was pretty rough because, like my math teacher said it was going to be completely different, and more challenging. In the middle of 7th grade is when my mindset changed from not caring, to I have to attempt to study. I did decently well in my subjects except for math. I failed math my first semester and had to take credit recovery, which was very boring, so I didn't really learn much from that experience. However, during the second semester I managed to pull off a c- which I was very surprised I managed to pull off. 8th grade was basically the same experience as 7th grade.
So far my high school experience has been very stressful because I have had barely any free time and I have to study way more often. Then again, I kept failing math and kept going to summer school which really made me feel hopeless at doing well in math. Luckily for me, during the end of my junior year I asked my parents if I can get a tutor because I did not want to feel like I could not in passing math. My parents quickly agreed and took me to a place called the learning center. I was very surprised how they treated me. They showed so much care toward me on the first day I arrived. They showed me good habits and different kinds of study strategies I should consider. So far in my senior year I am doing well in math, this is one of the key events that led me to maturity and personal growth. Now I am taking school way more seriously and once I get into Southwestern college, I will be more confident in math and every other subject because of the things I am learning from this place for the rest of my senior year. They have encouraged me to start look more into the career I am pursuing. Right now, I am very interested in becoming an electrical engineer and I feel like I can achieve this. Now that I have accomplished my long awaited goal of being successful in math I feel way more confident in my experience in southwestern college and for my future after college.
