Soccer Essay Example
Soccer is a popular sport enjoyed by many people throughout the world which many people enjoy watching, playing, and stating their opinions on. Due to this, people have tried to find ways to improve the way it's played. Throughout history, soccer has been innovated because its governing bodies have created new systems of competition that improved the sport by causing many players, fans, and governing bodies to take part in meaningful matches. The UEFA Nations League is a form of competition that improved soccer because it was the first form of league competition created between European national teams. This made a positive impact on soccer players, fans, and the European soccer governing body, UEFA, because it gave them the opportunity to take part in meaningful national team matches.
What is the UEFA Nations League
The UEFA Nations League is a system of league play between national soccer teams in Europe. This league was created to host meaningful international matches that enabled players to play for certain opportunities. In this league, all 55 national teams in Europe are involved in league matches throughout the year. (Mark Walker, independent.co.uk) The teams are placed in four tiers based on their ranking in Europe, and each tier is split into four groups each consisting of three or four teams. The first and second tiers consist of twelve teams, the third tier consists of fifteen teams, and the fourth tier consists of sixteen teams. In each tier, teams play competitively because they play to earn certain opportunities. One opportunity they play for is ranking in tier because in all tiers except the first, the top teams can move up to the higher tier, and in all tiers except the last, the bottom teams move down to the lower tier. (Mark Walker, independent.co.uk) Another opportunity teams play for is the qualification into the Nations League Finals, which could give teams a second chance to qualify for the quadrennial UEFA Euro tournament. While bringing many opportunities at stake for national teams in Europe, the UEFA Nations League enables players to experience meaningful moments while playing for their country.
Why UEFA Nations League is so Good
One reason why the UEFA Nations League made a positive impact on European soccer players was because it gave them an opportunity to treat its national teams' competitions like those in their clubs. This league's competition is structured similar to clubs' league systems because, like clubs' leagues, they have tiers based on a team's level of performance. For example, top teams in each tiers except the first moves up a tier, and teams in each tier except the last moves down a tier. Since this league's competition structure is similar to those of clubs' leagues, players are likely to play as competitively as they would with their clubs because they play for certain opportunities at stake, such as moving up a tier, avoiding moving down a tier, or possible qualification to a playoff round. When players play for their national teams with certain opportunities at stake, they are likely to play more competitively because they have the desire to accomplish a task while playing. As this league gives the players a chance to play for their national teams as competitively as they'd do with their clubs, the players are taking part in meaningful matches because this league's matches give them a chance to play for their country with a similar passion they'd play with while playing for their clubs.
More Opportunities Provided by UEFA Nations League
Another reason why the UEFA Nations League made a positive impact on the players was because its games gave them another opportunity to play in the Euro tournament. Players can play in the Euro tournament if their national team qualifies by being one of the top half of teams in their group during the stage of qualifying matches; however, there were many players who hadn't received the opportunity to play in this tournament because their nation failed to qualify. However, the teams who failed to qualify for the Euros during the qualifying stage can still have a chance to qualify if they finish first in their tier. The top four teams in each tier play in the playoff round called the Nations League Finals the summer following the end of this league's regular season games, and the top team this playoff round that didn't qualify for the Euros through the qualifying stages qualifies. As this league gives players a second chance to qualify for the Euros, it gives them a chance to take part in meaningful matches because they give them another chance to possible accomplish a goal they once failed in trying to accomplish.
The UEFA Nations League positively impacted European soccer fans because it gave them an opportunity to watch players of their favorite national teams play as competitively for their country as they would with their club teams. If fans watch players play in their national teams' games as competitively as they would with their clubs' games, they're likely to enjoy these games because they're able to watch players compete for their nation at their best. The UEFA Nations League causes fans to watch the players play at their best because the players play for many opportunities at stake like they would play for during their clubs' competitions such as helping their team move up a division, avoiding moving down a division. Fans could enjoy watching players play for their country with things at stake because they can watch the players play in meaningful matches. As this league gives fans a chance to watch players play for things at stake with their countries like they would do with their clubs, it gives them a chance to take part in meaningful matches because they can watch the players play to earn opportunities.
The UEFA Nations League positively impacted European soccer fans also by giving them a chance to potentially watch their favorite team play in the Nations League Finals. This chance positively impacts fans because they're given the opportunity to possibly watch their favorite team accomplish a goal from playing in this league. If the fans watch players play in games where they can accomplish a goal in, they're likely to enjoy watching them because they can watch the players play for the sake of perseverance. While watching this league's games, fans are given the chance to watch players play for the sake of perseverance because they watch the players play to qualify for its playoff tournament called Nations League Finals if the players' teams are ranked first place in their tier at the end of the league's regular season games. As this league gives fans a chance to play in a playoff round, it gives them a chance to take part in meaningful matches because it enables them to watch players persevere.
The UEFA Nations League made a positive impact on the European soccer governing body, UEFA, because it's able to earn money from its games. UEFA can earn money from the league by fans' ticket purchases because many people are likely to buy tickets to watch its games live at a stadium. They can also earn money from European nations' soccer governing bodies because they have to pay them to host one of the league's games in a stadium in their countries. This governing body benefits by earning money from fans and the soccer governing bodies of European Nations because it can use the earned money to help improve soccer in Europe and its systems of competition. As they improve its systems of soccer competition, UEFA can ultimately improve soccer in Europe. As UEFA profits from fans and national soccer governing bodies of Europe whenever the league's matches are held, it takes part in meaningful matches because it can help improve soccer in Europe through the money they earned from hosting them.
Conclusion
The UEFA Nations League improved soccer because it created meaningful national team competition in Europe. As a result, players, fans, and UEFA were given chance to take part in more meaningful national team matches. It gave players the opportunity to play to accomplish certain goals, fans the opportunity to watch competitive national team games, and UEFA to profit from the hosting of its games. This opportunity gave players, fans, and UEFA the chance to positively represent their country because this enabled them to represent their country with soccer. After all, the UEFA nations league changed soccer because it gave people an opportunity to take part in soccer matches while showing pride for their country.
